Check the discussion on the CU Forum where Mike Wallace of smalldollars.com found an auction for the ICG slabbed sample slabs that he personally ordered but never received: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=605018 If anybody knows who the seller is, please report it so Mike can follow up.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "sample dollar"? Are these like promotional items to be given out by a coin dealer?
A "sample dollar" is essentially what has been termed a "sample slab", which is commonly understood to be a sample coin enclosed in a slab issued by a professional coin grading company. Cameron Kiefer has a great website featuring many varieties of these over the years at http://www.sampleslabs.com Some sample slabs are created by professional grading services for use by individuals to promote their own projects and businesses. This is the case with Mike Wallace's smalldollars.com dollar sample slab. These were to be delivered directly to him and distributed only by him to his friends and supporters. Mike Wallace has a previous issue like this, featuring a counterstamped Washington dollar: http://home.earthlink.net/~smalldollars2/dollar/page36.html#sdcs
I was bored and asked how the seller came to b ein possession that obviously belongs to someone else and her response was: Dear *********, You are incorrect..call ICG ..they gave many away at the west palm beach FUN show this summer.ICG gives samples away. Give them a call and maybe you will become enlightened. Please, before you make allegations of theif..get your info correct. Also, amazing how you and your bully chums have nothing better to do but chat on line- read that last night. You have also been reported to ebay sir..Ebay will be kicking you and your ignorant freinds off line for misuse, harassemnet and profanity. Keep better company. Smart, nice people . Why don't you use your time wisely and become educated..lack of eduation causes people to speak incorrectly. Also, please be advised if the continued harassment and profanity continues I have spoken with the SO this a.m._ Sheriifs office....there are laws to protect people from you and your stalking friends. Have a blessed day. Barbie - emillie06
I hate to say it, but I was at the West Palm FUN show, and I didn't get one of these from ICG, and I visited their booth a couple of times. I mean maybe it was a mistake on the part of ICG, but I feel that given the fact that there is a large cloud of doubt about the rightful owner of this item, this seller should take the item down until the proper facts can be obtained. Plus I love the fact that she threatens you in the email, then ends it with "Have a blessed day"....
um...couldn't it be true that ICG gave out these coins...I didn't notice any serial #'s on that slab! I'm not trying to discredit your claim and please let me know if I've missed something about that slabbed coin but it looks kinda generic..meaning I see no identifying serial # that would make it a one of a kind? Am I wrong?
It says "compliments of smalldollars.com" right on the label, and it is a dollar coin. The sample slabs I got this year from the major coin grading companies all had bison nickels in them. The seller should cancel the auction and let the issue be properly investigated. Imagine these were slabbed coins stolen at gunpoint from a dealer, now being offered on eBay. What would you do as a seller?
I just got off the phone with a close friend of mine who is a lawyer here in Florida. She said that even if there was a mistake made and these coins were passed out in error at the show, because they have the website address on them a claim can be made that they are the property of the website who ordered them (kind of like the treasury dept with the double eagles). The Owner of the website, who is also the person who ordered the samples can get a cease and disist order from a judge here in florida (where the samples were made, distributed and for sale) to block the ebay sale until the matter can be resolved. At the very least he can get an injunction preventing any future sales by this person or anyone else. I wanted to post this info on the other forum, but I tried to join and it said that it would take some time to process my request. Jef69la, the coins are labels with the website smalldollars.com, which identifies them as the ones ordered by the website owner, or (and very unlikely) ICG decided to give this website free advertising...
Well, I didn't say it would be cheap... It's an option that the seller can take if he really means business.... And, spelling has never been my strong suit....Man this forum needs a spell checker!
ahhh...I see...ok I misunderstood the original, sorry bout that.....I got rope let me know if you guys posse up!........j/k! Hope your able to get possesion of your property...don't expect to much help from ebay...I swear it seems they actually like having dishonest people doing business thru them!!
Jef69la Sometimes I feel that forums like this one, and others are like a hungry dog... They are all nice and let you pet an play with them, then all of a sudden, they bite you in the a**! Of course I've done this to other people as well (well... and even to you...) just remember that most of the time people are being nice, and what is typed does not always come off as people intend.
did I put my foot in my mouth? Im not sure I fully get your last post ! That happens to me from time to time...I'm not the fastest runner on the track if you get me!
Seems like the issue is being resolved now. ICG issued a statement that they accidentally distributed Mike Wallace's smalldollars.com sample slabs.
Apperently we are both suffering from the same thing... You said something... I misread it a posted something a liitle snippy... you said something funny... I posted, trying to be funny, but came off as a little "off"... Well, lets just say "welcome to the forum" and leave it at that!
