    1761-Mo Mexico 8R, PCGS AU50 (for sale @ $550)

I could have this in an even swap for the 3cN coin below. Might even be able to squeeze the additional $25 price difference out of the other party, but not any more than that.

I've wanted one of these for some time. Had a high grade example several years ago, but it was heavily polished, and therefore not "keeper" quality. This one has about the right kind of toning, I think.

My coin. I might keep it. I dunno. I like both.

But I can't have both. I can only have one.

The other party understands my dilemma, and consented to this poll.

They both are sweet but as a collector of three cent pieces the proof would be my choice hands down.
The date in itself is a tougher date to begin with. Your image of its quality and color is another factor.

I fully realize that many people will have inherent biases towards one category or the other, and that's OK. This does not pretend to be a "scientific" poll.

Nor does it really determine what I'll decide. I just thought I'd hang this out there while I thought on it.

Proof 3 centers like yours are extremely common. You can easily replace it in the future. So.......

The proof 3cN is sweet but I like the 8R for the history. Tough choice, good luck!:)

I would go with the 1888. Pretty coin. It would be worth much more than $575 if it were DCAM.

    Can't go wrong either way.
I'm a fan of the 3 cent piece personally, though.
More of a US collector, so I am indeed biased.

I'm a sucker for silver, and that Pillar dollar is awesome!

I'd keep the 3CN because I think you could find a comparable pillar dollar raw for significantly less money. It's a nice 8R but they made millions of them.

The Pillar...but then, I am HEAVILY biased against proof anything...an '81 MS-65 three center (PCGS says $575) I would take over the Mexican coin.

I like the three cent piece the most, but would be torn, between the two.

I'm a Type-Set kind of guy and *love* the toning on the 3-cent nickel... I can't quite make it out in your pics, but if the vertical bands in the "III" are all distinct, that's definitely the one I'd vote for.

Take the coin in better condition, that's my advice.

If it were DCAM, then I'd go for that based on looks.

And I like the year 1888 for some mysterious reason, like 1942 and 2012; but not in the same way as 1776. So I'm biased...
