Let's not confuse "pawn shop" with "coin dealer".

The 1921 Peace isn't even close to being the rarest. They do have a nice premium being first year and high relief but several dates are rarer.

    He/she whatever :)

I'll send this link to my brother... I'm not sure who gave him that value and he didn't say if they actually "looked" at them...

Are you sure the pawn shop wasn't offering $11 as a quote on a loan? ..that might be a little more reasonable.

    CoinTrackers whoah...

    10 Most Valuable Peace Dollars
Here are the 10 most valuable Peace Dollars that were minted and released into common circulation. (updated: 2017). These are common non-error coins that you can find in antique shops and at estate sells everywhere.

ummm, why is there such a big difference in average/mint price on the 1925-S and 1923-S Peace Dollar?

1921: As a rough estimate of this coins value you can assume this coin in average condition will be valued at somewhere around $146, while one in certified mint state (MS+) condition could bring as much as $1,500 at auction.

1923-S: As a rough estimate of this coins value you can assume this coin in average condition will be valued at somewhere around $28, while one in certified mint state (MS+) condition could bring as much as $3,000 at auction.

1925-S: As a rough estimate of this coins value you can assume this coin in average condition will be valued at somewhere around $28, while one in certified mint state (MS+) condition could bring as much as $15,000 at auction.

I didn't know about an overlap and I didn't look to see if there was a difference - but I'm *pretty* sure from 1921 on they were peace dollars (tiara and profile eagle, right?)

At first I thought they were all LIBERTY dollars; then for a while there, I thought they were ALL Morgan dollars; then realized there were two different types, THEN realized I didn't have the chops to sort it all out - that's why no images - all done on my sister's coffee table at midnight before next day flight.

I appraise art and jewelry, but no coins or currency - that's why I really wish I had them here, I'd be learning a lot (about one coin).

Why, many so called actual 'coin dealers' are in no way better or fairer than the pawn shops or we buy gold places anyways.

You'll probably get more money selling them directly to collectors, vs dealers, but that requires more work on your part, listing on ebay or whatever other site, etc...

Yeah, I won't quote those to my brother - especially as none of them are mint :)

That list is... well, if you've read the rules for posting here, perhaps you'll understand why I can't say what that list actually is.

Let's go with "random". "Random" and "more or less completely divorced from reality".

Sure, extremely high-grade examples of Peace dollars can go for five-figure sums. But those examples aren't "common" by anyone's standard. Conversely, the ones that are common, the ones that you'll find in antique stores, aren't valuable.

Here's a list of values for uncirculated Peace dollars in various grades. (The grades range from "uncirculated but ugly" to "nearly perfect"; learning to distinguish them is a long-term project.)

Here's a list of values for circulated Peace dollars.

These prices, particularly on the low end, are the highest you'd expect to pay at a coin dealer; you'd never get that much if you're selling the coins.

Sorry, jeffB - I googled peace dollars rarest and wanted to share it as just that, random - didn't mean to quote it...

I'm at such a low rung on this subject and I wouldn't share that kind of information with a client or my boss (when researching personal property) - they'd get waaaay too excited and question any reality that might hit on the open market.

No reason to be sorry. Posing questions/misconceptions to those with more knowledge is a surefire way to learn more. ..welp, at least if the person asking is willing to learn that is. ;)

I wasn't sure what jeffB meant by reading the rules - i think probably not to use more colorful language than "random" haha

When you get the chance, or invite your family member here, lets us know and have them make some posts. I would think it was a scam to pay under 70$ for a 21 Peace Dollar, even fully worn.
You could probably sell a few coins and start a collection, Were there any others coins in the collection?
