If I were to sell some rolls of wheats to a dealer and they were all labeled in tubes from the 40-50s, would they just offer X and not worry about dates. If some are say 55s and other better dates would they break it down to say s-p-d and offer accordingly. My old dealer would just empty them in a bag pay X and then sell the lot of tubes. So I am just trying to get a feel what other dealer do when purchasing wheats sorted. thanks in advance Randy

they almost never worry about the dates unless you have semi keys or keys

They wouldn't even look, unless you put the (for example) all San Fran's together.
The S's you MAY get a bit more for.

I agree. Most will just pay the generic $0.03 each regardless of what the dates are, unless there are full date rolls that are uncirculated.

I've seen many dealers at coin shows just dump out the coins to verify they are all whatever people claim regarless of the price. I asked a dealer why if they are just wheat cents. He said in the past people would put a few wheat cents on the ends and fill the rest with moderns. Nice little trick if you don't check even for a few cents per coin. Same with any coins people try to sell by the roll. If a person does this successfully at many coin shows they only make a few dollars profit but to some that is all they want.
A similar scam is with a roll of Uncirc coins of any denomination or date.

Carl, that makes sense, good point. Just bought some more wheats today @ 3 cents each and the pile of 56D/57D/58D is growing. I am fine with them because I just enjoy the thrill of searching, my form of stress relief.
