found this coin recently, Is it real? What's the deal? any information, and of course, is it of any particular value? Started fooling around with coins, I'll never be a genius, but it's fun to learn..... Obviously it's been split, or rather it's in two halves, is this common, Has anyone seen a lot of these?
Nice. The Planchet had some kind of flaw and it split in half after the strike. How did you find both halves? They call it a Split Planchet Error
I ended up at an estate sale Sunday, and in the bottom of a shoe box along with a hundred other little plastic bags, was one with these two halves. I was excited for sure, I had gotten a blank the day before, so had looked up pennies. Found out about the double strike 1955 and the 1922 no mint mark. So this one was... cool.
I hadn't found anything on split planchets, especially with both sides, so of course I was left puzzled. At least now I have somewhere to start. I'll just have to see what happens when I try to sell it to find out it's worth. As always thank you for your time and interest.
I will defer to @Fred Weinberg on this one. I'm not an error/variety guy, but that definitely looks interesting.
you know, I'm not very good at this, but I wrote a reply and now it's not there.... But my LOL. showed up??? I really despise computers. Sorry.
Well... the question is. Should I sell it? and find out? or hoard it like everything else I like and leave it remaining a mystery. Because, I don't understand the half of any of it? I guess it all depends on who...
I would love to have it , the people telling you that ain't worth nothing probably would "really" like to have it, but for nothing. And then sell it to you.
