    gatzon:
Not proofs because they were not struck on specially prepared planchets.
Although they were supposed to be handled carefully, they frequently have marks, stains etc.
Also, proofs are struck on specially prepared dies, these were not.

I traded in my last batch another 100 rolls of pennies today from the bank, and I've looked through about 5 so far with just a couple of finds, one of which was a 1918, which is my oldest roll find so far. Worn almost beyond recognition, but still, it's an old one.

My oldest was a 1912D Barber Half in XF condition (probably my most valuable find too)

My quest to fill a 50-state quarter book with die cracks continues.

I found a 1963 in one of my 2 rolls today. =) Actually got something worth keeping. Lol

    HOLY CRAP.

I just bought a bunch of halves from a local bank ($700), cleaned out their halves. The merchant said they'd been there since he'd been there (who knows how long that's been), but I've been through enough halves that no matter how long they've been sitting, there're no guarantees.

I've opened up eight rolls so far. Four had all newer (post-1971) halves. One had 65-70 mixed in with some Centennials. The remaining three had ALL 1964, Franklins (one that looked in awesome shape), and one Liberty.

I'm crapping my pants to see what's in the other sixty rolls...

That said... are there any key Franklins to look for?

Holy crap indeed. When you say you found a liberty,, do you mean a walking liberty?

    Indeed, a 1942 Walking Liberty.

So I haven't checked thoroughly through them yet, but on "drop check" (and listening for the sound of the entire roll), I've got 15 entire rolls of silver 1964-and-before, while the others might have lingering coins but otherwise sound of clad coins.

One curious coin I did find is a 1989-D Kennedy.. It looks just like any vanilla 1989-D Kennedy, except that it feels really light, and when dropped, has a dull thud, rather than the bright ring of clad, or even the distinctive ring of silver.. Any idea what it could be?

    If I didn't have a date tonight...

Probably a magicians coin - examine it with a loupe just inside the rim. Look for a seam.

Looks like this is the case.. Good call. I can't imagine that it's legal tender, but it looks so authentic (and hey, it was in a bank roll!)..

The results, out of $730 in half dollars:

    1 - 1942 Walking Liberty
    1 - 1943 Walking Liberty
    110 - Franklin Halves
    173 - 90% Kennedy Halves
    41 - 40% Kennedy Halves

The rest being 1971-2001 halves. I hesitate to jinx myself, but I doubt I'll ever have another haul quite like this one...
