W/O going too far into it, because im up to my azz in alligators today. Im looking at the breast feathers and that left wing tip on the reverse. Those are normally VERY well struck on 81 S. Obviously the hair on the obverse is another area. Im about 50/50 on this coin, really hard to tell in photograph tho.
The 81 S is known for their quality strikes, so i agree that coin 2 looks over graded. But pictures can fool you.
Correct, pictures can be deceptive. Looking at the reverse of the second 81-S however, it's obvious that it was either weakly struck or there's some wear. Apparently it is a weak strike (if we trust PCGS and the assigned MS grade) but I really don't see an MS65 coin... in market grading we should not only look at the surface preservation, but also at strike, luster and eye appeal. I don't want to judge luster from pictures, but the strike is weak, which alone should prevent such a high grade.
