In a thread here recently I noticed that I didn't have many Rome mint examples of CtG and decided to remedy the situation. I stumbled across the following example that seemed to fit the bill.

It is a common type but a nicely struck example in good style on a large flan. There is some wear on the high points but there is still lots of golden toned silvering in the fields. I know that partial silvering can be a distraction but I don't find it too bad here.

Constantine the Great - Reduced follis

Obv:– IMP CONSTANTINVS PF AVG, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– SOLI IN -VI-CTO COMITI, Sol standing left holding globe in left and raising right, chlamys across left shoulder
    Minted in Rome (S | F //RP).
Reference:– RIC VII Rome 33 (C3).

Large flan. Residual golden toned silvering in the fields.

3.49 gms. 21.79 mm generally but 23.55 mm at the sprue

Super OP !! I love everything about it!!! I also seem to lack those of Rome....

    Great posts everyone!

Here's one from Trier with Sol----Reminds me of the style of the London mint.

Beautiful coins Martin, and everyone! This is another wonderful LRB series to collect, with many varieties, mints, and styles. Here are four from Arles, Trier, Lyons, and Rome...

Nice coin @Mikey Zee . I have one of those as well. A scarce issue. Apparently those "Bust of Sol" reverses were only issued at Trier. I wonder what the significance of that lone mint striking was. Maybe @Victor_Clark knows.

Victor_Clark all my best friends are dead Romans Dealer

Trier was a very important city in the Western Roman Empire and was "the normal headquarters of the westernmost ruler." (RIC VI p 141) so it would not be surprising to find special issues from that city. This issue, though, was actually issued from four cities -- London, Trier, Ticinum and Aquileia, and must be differentiated by stlye.
