It has massive doubling. The number one in 1858 is tripled. There are double image of a boy Indian and a girl in the face of the Indian head. I think it is a test or prototype. I'd like think it's the story about the daughter of the coin mker. Sorry the photos are not better. If needed I can try to get better photos. Tell me what you think. There were IHC pattern coins made in 1858. You need better images of both sides. Don't tilt the coin. Take the images straight on and try to get them in focus. That's the only way you will get any good answers. Welcome the CT.

Is it just me, or does it look to be a ty II?

It's just you.;) I don't know. One image looks like it but the rest make me think it's not. I love a mystery. Chances of it being a 1858 are slim.

Haha... thanks. Isn't the first time, and certainly won't be the last. :)

Is it a beat up 1859? Need to see the date clearly.

In the fifth picture you can see that it is a hub of 1886.

    Probably a nasty 1888.

It would have been preferable had you not covered the obverse area I most wanted to see, but I'm holding to my initial opinion that it's a Ty II, meaning no.. it's not an 1858.

It's not an 1858. Just a damaged cent.

It also has the shield reverse not used til 1860. I don't believe it was used on any of the 1858 patterns.

They did use the shield on some of the patterns but it was a different style of shield.

Damaged 1888. Worth $0.25 if you are lucky.
