1983P Kennedy half dollar has some sort of halo surrounding JFK's head. The halo appears raised and not a stain IMGP1872.JPG IMGP1866.JPG . Does anyone what this is exactly and what caused it?

It's called 'ghosting' and it's caused by the way the metal in the planchet moves when struck, due to the design on the reverse die. It's very common on Kennedy's, especially from the '70's & '80's with a higher relief reverse
