My Worst Coin

When I first saw this post I thought the idea was to show coins that were bad on the day they were made but it soon migrated to coins that became ugly mostly due to corrosion. What follows is an advertisement: Sometimes coins can actually add interest, character or even beauty as a result of their imperfections. I believed this when I did my page on Wabi-Sabi ancients.

To me the best example of this is the toned gold from being too close to Mt. Vesuvius (Boscoreale Hoard) but I also see added beauty in some overstrikes where it looks like we have a ghost lurking in the background. Many of you would not see this last class as adding beauty but might see some interest or character. Sometimes the concepts of best and worst can merge. I see beauty in the confusion below:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (unless you beholdin' a mirror in which case we call it vanity).
