When visiting Syria, many years ago,I was given a strange "mini coin" of Geta in a reduced dimension (16mm./1.47gr.) and silvery metal (tin ?). Back in Europe, I was told that this might be a so-called"Lime coin", type of unofficial coin struck in neighbouring limes, by the border of the empire. Any idea ?

could be, i have a sept. severus limes denarius. these coins are interesting, but their story is really not known for sure. some say these coins were officially minted as substitutes for troops away in military service when there was no precious metals, as well as other suggestions. septimius severus denarius 006.JPG septimius severus denarius 007.JPG

The part that troubles me most is I can't see any likelihood that we will ever learn the story. We need to unearth the diary of a mintmaster involved in the production. Such things were unlikely to have been produced let alone to have survived.
