I have always thought that true collectors really don't care what the price is and couldn't care less if they go up in value, because they bought the coins for love in the first place. The people who own coins for value's sake are hardly collectors in my mind.

If my favorite coin ends up worth next to nothing, it doesn't hurt me because I enjoy owning the coin. I love it regardless of value.

And as far as the Mint is concerned, your greedy, buy the entire mintage operators are the exact kind of customer the Mint prefers. Many extra (unwanted) gold Standing Liberty Quarters and Walking Liberty Halves were sold merely because speculators couldn't pass them up.

My apologies I read somewhere that the second issue would parallel the 1995 series and be a part of a gold/silver series. That takes some pressure off, but not all.

That's not true though in this instance. Not wanting to take a blood bath on everything you buy doesn't mean you aren't a collector. Market moves are different than the whole just wait a few months and buy less than issue price for 90 percent of mint offerings. It's easier to deal with a loss on older hard to find stuff or top pops that couldn't be replaced in 15 seconds on eBay

I do agree harder to source material there is a value in the enjoyment and ownership. But US mint stuff from that year, it gets hard to swallow that is is constantly losing value in a lot of cases.

You got it. The "middleman" commerce arrangement is far more advantageous to the Mint, especially with Congress breathing down their backs looking for excuses to start replacing people. They don't hit many home runs, but they don't strike out very often either.

For me as a collector, it makes no difference whatsoever. Not necessarily because I don't buy their products (even though I don't), but because I know the prices on most in the secondary market are artificially inflated and a little patience will put them into my hands at a much more reasonable price.

I've no sympathy for the Mint, and very little more for buyers being driven by their desire for instant gratification into paying through the nose. If it's what makes their boat float, well, at least that's not money competing with me for what I do buy. :)

I guess it would depend on definition of striking out. If the definition is losing money I would agree that doesn't happen much if ever. If it's more of a theoretical what could have been they hit under the mendoza line for me lately

"Generate consistent seignorage" is all they need. Nobody in Congress has a clue what they're capable of generating, and they must be meeting whatever arbitrary level the relevant Congresscritters are creating for them. Don't anybody rock the boat. :)

Can't argue with that. Just wish they would push the envelope a little more as we have mentioned many times in the past. To keep the baseball theme going I would rate their products overall as more of a sacrifice fly :)

When you look at the issue price, you might think there's a little gold in there.

Before they sold out in 3 seconds, I actually was contemplating on buying a few of these and using them as graduating present to kids I know. I think that was part of their actual design and use. But .. so much for that idea. Just getting one was a PITA.

You will never get a 70 on a back order since you are getting someone's returns.

Good thing I wasn't replying to you then.
It was way back on the back order post, and too late to edit my original post.

I've gotten all three Coin & Currency Enhanced Uncirculated Native Americans dollars slabbed. 2014 was a SP69, and both 2015 & 2016 came back SP70. They are interesting studies in surface treatments.
