That's just insane, and UNPRECEDENTED. The ONLY "we can tell based on our secret sauce" ASE's are those WITHOUT mint marks. This is just bogus crap. If the coin has an "S" on it, it had better NOT be from Denver.

Truthfully, other than the seemingly useless early release designation, NGC's slab is correct.

I just have a twitch every time an authority, (be it an auditor or some other professed expert), doesn't verify their own information and it ends up being published incorrectly.

My personal opinion is that people should stop feeding the beast. These are not really coins in the sense that they will ever see circulation. They are medals with a dollar value on them so that they can called coins. The mint is like all other US businesses: the bottom line is the only thing and investors don't matter.

If everyone would simply stop buying these simply because they are put out by a corrupt government entity then they would soon change their practices.

First, let me state that I missed out on this issue through no fault but my own.....I forgot all about game day until late afternoon and by then it was too late.

It seems to me that the Mint has an 'I don't give a hoot' attitude when it comes to popular series and coins/medals being issued. How many times has this happened in the last five or six years? I think we all have to face one fact.........they ain't listening to us (collectors) and what's more, they don't care. If they did (care) they'd fix it. I'm tempted to take @sakata 's advice, but I don't think it will send a message. What will send a message is boycotting the fat cats, who got a disproportionate allotment of product, and letting them choke on it. But that won't happen either because there are just too many folks out there who gotta get it first and they don't care what they pay. As long as there are people like that (and there will always be people like that) you will continue to see such practices.

The mint should have known (and I believe they did know, and just didn't care) that this issue was going to be very popular and they should have at least limited the ordering to a max of 5 units. That would have made it more difficult for the fat boys to obtain product.........they would have had to enlist their minions and that cuts into their profit margin.

I hear ya. Unfortunately some of the most expensive coins are those NIFC's, even way back when a few 1804 dollars were made. And unfortunately, if one doesn't buy them someone else will, so all that happens is the one who doesn't buy is left out of the profit.

The 2017 S (perhaps minted in Denver:banghead:) just officially became a lot more trouble than it's worth.

Really? Is the profit really worth prostituting yourself? Isn't there profit to be made elsewhere? Surely you, along with everyone else, have the ability to find equal profits in entities which are not so corrupted.

LOL Of course I wouldn't prostitute myself, but, others are lining up to do so. This is America, land of the ignorant, home of the corrupt.

Possibly, that's how the Philly bullion ones were discovered.

Best guess and first thought would be those were sold at the Denver office, just like with the Gold Kennedys that had labels for which mint store sold them when could be proven. NGC did it for the Kennedys and both have been doing it here and there for a couple years

I can see the (P) on the bullion ASE's but identifying which mint gift shop a coin came from would be a bit much imo. If that is the reason I guess PCGS will now slab and put absolutely anything on the label if someone is willing to pay for it.

That's the limit on the website. If you order by phone the limit is $25,000 worth if you are paying by credit card. If you are paying by wire transfer (Which I'm sure the big dealers have already set up with them.) there is no limit.

I think the Mint and PCGS both have some 'splainin' to do.

I agree the if they do the (S) for them the (P) should be a thing too.

For the sale sites, NGC has done it to a larger extent. But that is my best guess for the Denver thing. The Gold Kennedy is where that really took off in my opinion. NGC has the Philly, Denver, DC ones, PCGS had the Baltimore baseball labels ect. ANA release labels are a thing too or used to be anyway if they stopped. I'm not aware of any sort of error or alternate minting of the coins so that is my best guess right now, and if I am right it's been a thing for several years

It looks like Modern Coin Mart, must have ordered thousands (Gov mint and Modern Coin Mart are the same company.) and got a lot of the inventory. According to ebay listings. Can you believe they want up to 349.00 for a proof 70. Thats 6 times the value. They had over 423 coins listed just under the PF70 labels. Thats 86,552 plus 45,325. For a total of $131,877.00 Just for the PF 70's???. Not to mention the PF69's. This is how the coin company's whore out their customer base.

I have purchased coins and ASE's from MCM and ASE's (bullion) from GovMint. The prices are very different. Usually, Govmint is a lot higher than MCM for US coins and proof ASE's. Are you sure they are the same companies? I got calls at one point from Govmint and they send me their catalog often trying to sell me other coins but never from MCM and I have purchased more from MCM.
    Just curious.
