Just started looking at large cents, perhaps someone would be so kind as to provide a good online resource for them. I did a little snooping around but not happy so far.

Looking for something a little more substantive with photos of each dates and comparisons to varieties and such.

Just a nudge in the right direction to anyone's favorite.

    Thx

I hope that the link was helpful :)

(I strongly suggest that you start with a Braided Hair or a Classic Head for your collection if your thinking about it being a priority, or if you just want one, you should splurge on a high grade Draped Bust cent)

I have been into lincolns for a few years now and minus the 55 DDO and a few oddities have completed 1 and started #2 albums. On a whim I purchased around 10 large cents dating 1810 and assorted through 1851. I enjoy them but compared to other coins I am quite a beginner in the large cent area. Not sure if I want to just splurge a little and get a good example each and go for a type set or get more in depth. I already have a few projects going and started some world coin dabbling and am think about completing a half penny set and am working on a WWI version of a type set with 1 coin of each participating country.

If I don't focus a little then I get really sidetracked

Welcome to the addiction of Large Cents! There are some very knowledgeable people on this site that will no doubt be able to help you as you go on this journey.

When it comes to Large Cents, I typically use two sites.

My main 'go to' site is www.largecents.net. The site is run by a gentleman named Tom Deck. He is absolutely AMAZING! You can purchase coins from him. For every coin he lists (by year and Sheldon variety), he also takes the time to describe the variety markers. He also has a library of coin images (from his own collection, as well as from the Walter Husak collection). He is very detailed in the types. A very good resource of information. If you should email Tom directly, he always responds promptly and is very helpful. I can't recommend him highly enough.

My secondary resource of Large Cent types is Heritage Auctions. They have an amazing pictorial catalog of coins they have sold in the past. It's a great resource.

The best place too learn about early coppers is from Early American Coppers, the club dedicated to large cents and half cents. Go to www.eacs.org. Information about the coins can be found at the Books and Resources link on the homepage. It's a non-commercial site. You can also look at the references on the Eric Newman Numismatic Portal. They have back issues of the club journal, Penny-Wise from 1967-2014.
