Coin world slabs and toning?

Hey guys I was interested in buying some Coin World Premier slabs. However, after reading a few older threads I have noticed some people complaining about their coins toning in these holders? The holders claim to be completely inert... I also saw that modern proof coins toned more than others. I am planning on storing some Morgans and would like them not to tone. Any input on this?

Also, planning on getting an Intercept Shield box to put my slabs in.

The holders may be inert, but the ink on the labels might not be. They're far from airtight, so there's also that. The Intercept box should help.

Thanks! I may buy some Intercept Shield 2x2 instead...

Good choice but remember where you store the holders is important. Large swings in temperature and humidity are not helpful. A stable environment is really important.

I've been using these for a long time. I use a paper label printed in an inkjet printer wrapped over the top edge. There is a "break" between the label and coin sections of the holders. I haven't noticed toning because of these holders, but much will have to do with where and how you store them.

I think what people forget, or are not aware of to begin with, is that coin holders are not airtight. None of them are, not a single one, and yes that includes all slabs.

The coin holder is just 1 step in the multi-step process of proper coin storage. But even if all of the steps are followed the coins may well still tone. Because, as the others have said - it depends, not only on where you store them, but where you are - where you live and also how you live.

Every single thing, from the town you live in to what part of that town you live in, from the carpet on your floors to the paint on your walls, to the type of heating system you have, to the types of food you eat and how you cook them - all of these things and hundred more determine whether or not and how your coins will tone.

Each and every person will have different results because each and ever person is different - in a hundred different ways.

Do Intercept Shield products lose effectiveness overtime? Hate to buy a box online that is old and not effective lol?

I've read that that they do after 10 years or so. But I used some for longer than 10 years and never had a problem. But I did everything else right too. So your mileage may vary.

If you like inexpensive solutions, take from your change about 5 to 10 zincolns and scrub, scratch the heck out of them. They are 100% copper and more chemically reactive than any other normal coin ( not exotic metals) and probably at least if not more than the intercept(tm) material. If they start to turn brown, either re-scrub or replace. Of course having them loose in my safes, SD Boxes, desk drawers , etc. can look sloppy, but they really work, and less than 50cents total for all. Sacrificial coins to save the rest.
