Here are two of my favorite coins. Not high value or especially high grade but still beautiful to me. I love the dragon on this coin 20170415_221336.jpg 20170415_221346.jpg 20170415_221431_001.jpg 20170415_221440.jpg . These are from my personal collection. If anyone else has these coins I'd love to see them.

I love old 10 sen coins--such variety over the years!

I recently was doing glamour shots of my type set which these are from showing the progression of metal debasement over the course of pre-wars/wars/post wars.

The first style from 1870 came in shallow/deep scales and had both the dragon and sunburst themes. The two themes then were divided out over the subsequent years like you have above (and a slightly lower silver content in the sunburst type vs. dragon only type).

    The first 10 sen coin:

Followed by the two silver ones you have.

Next was a move to cupronickel:

    Aluminum-Bronze:

    Tin:

And finally, by Showa 21 and 1946, a return to aluminum. This was under the transitional government as was indicated by the shift in issuing authority. No longer 'Great Japan' but the 'Government of Japan' (vs. the current 'Country of Japan').

After that, the denomination was eliminated with the new constitution.

Very informative post. Thanks for sharing. Yes I can read on the coins how they changed from Greater Japan to Japanese Government. I did not know that they debased their coins over the war but I am not surprised. Very interesting to see the progression. Nice collection!~

This design was brought over to Korea as these were struck in Osaka Mint (Japan) and struck from 1907 to 1910.

Nice coins. I have seen those Japanese colonial silvers in Korea but did not know if they were stuck in Korea or Japan. Thanks for sharing^^b
