Interesting 1829 large cent.

    I have a 1829 large cent that was put in a vice and stamped S.SIMPSON any body have any ideas about it? The stamp looks as old as the coin. I have some theories but ...

    It's called a counter stamp. People would do that for advertising. I know there very collectable. Definitely not my field, but I like it. Cool coin

    Typical of the day, most likely a business counterstamp. It was effective advertising because the name was likely already known as a local business, and money didn't travel around very much back then once it landed in circulation.

    Ok now look up Samuel Simpson he made pewter back then, is that his stamp. How many S Simpsons were famous in some fashion from that time.

    This is a counter stamped coin i have also it looks to me to be pool cues both sides
