I can tell there's something behind the S mint mark, but don't know if it is of any significance? All opinions/info appreciated.
First of all welcome. I do agree there seems to be something there. Let the experts chime in and they might need better pictures.
April let me share this with you Google Vam World on this site you can see all the Morgan and Peace dollars and the vams a signed to them. There also a ton of references and information that may help you solve what's under your S. Welcome aboard
First you have to see which reverse it has . B1 Reverse Design Reverse B1: Note two mountain peaks, 3 rays below ONE, 6 rays below Eagle's tail, and detached olive branch. B2 Reverse Design Reverse B2: 3 mountain peaks and attached olive branch.
Appears to be a S/S RPM. I am not knowledgable on peace dollar VAMs. Someone will help you out for sure.
You seem to have an eye for detail. Welcome to CT! I glanced through the 1922-S VAM listings and found none with a description regarding the mint mark being S/S. You may be able to identify your coin by another feature starting with the reverse design as Rick posted. Here is a link to the VAM listings for '22-s http://www.vamworld.com/1922-S+VAMs If you were to post full images of the obverse and reverse we may be able to help you.
Let me know if these pictures aren't good/aren't focusing on the areas of interest and thank you all again for being more than helpful! I call you guys "my coin people"
This is what we need, a close up of the date, looking for die cracks and or, polishing lines . Also, one of IGWT ... Keep the light down too, we need to see the fields ....
