I bought an 1883o Morgan dollar VAM 1C1 proof-like which has the buffed reverse in MS64 on Ebay for $540 thinking I have gotten a good deal. VAM World list this coin as the highest known grade for a proof for this VAM. An experienced coin dealer that I have known for years told me that since the coin is not a very interesting VAM the coin is worth only $200. Is the coin dealer right? Does anyone know how much this coin is worth? The dealer has offered to sell the coin to me for $353.50 but I already have the coin packaged up and ready to be shipped back to the seller.
Photos would probably help a bit Wheres @Dave Waterstraat ? I strongly disagree w the dealer, as its an interesting vam. Is it worth $540? I do not know the answer to that. Its definitely better than $200 though
VAM's can certainly be a tough animal to put a price on. I know this first hand. Realizing that price is almost as tough, as a lot of VAM'ers enjoy the hunt for unattributed pieces. Some of the tougher VAM's are much easier to sell though. As @Cascade said, photo's would be a big help.
I stopped and looked at that one but the price was more than I was willing to pay for something I already have multiples of (not 64PL granted) I strongly disagree with your dealer as well as it's a very interesting VAM that made it to the WOW list. So interesting that I have more examples of this VAM than any other in my collection. I'm not sure if it's worth $540 either but that's up to you if it's worth that. Welcome to CT.
VAMs are similar to toned coins in that prices aren't really established on most. Whatever a buyer is willing to pay is what it will go for. The 1C1 is a nice WOW coin but in the progression the 1C3 is the big boy. A 64PL 1C1 is a very nice coin but I personally think that price is a bit high. If you like it at that price, that's all that matters though.
No. The $550. $350 seems more reasonable but again, if you like it and want it and can afford it, that's what matters most. I personally enjoy cherrypicking my VAMs unattributed the most.
