I thought it would be interesting to see what you consider to be some of the best reverse designs on US coins.

Got a favorite? Let us know what it is, and what you like about it. :)

Here's one of my all-time favorites; the reverse of the Barber dime.
I truly admire it's simple elegance and detailed symbolism.
IMO, an excellent example of the engraver's art.

I don't have a photo readily available but I like the St Gaudens reverse. That gets my vote every time :)

Interesting cos i don't like the St. Gaudens reverse.

I'd vote for the Washington Quarter Reverse. It's elegant in a stylish way. And it's symmetrical.

I'm torn...I have 2 favorites. I like the reverse of the 3 cent silver, it is so different from anything else and beautiful in an almost astrological kind of way.
I also like the reverse of the Walking Liberty halves. In my opinion, a very striking rendition of the eagle..so different from most others in that it's not in flight or wings so broadly spread.

Maybe someone with a better knack for pics will be able to post some for me as I STILL haven't taken the time to mess with this new computer and figure out how to do it myself. :)

I do like the SAC reverse, but I could do without the obverse. Matter of fact, they should have gone with some of the concept designs first, but since we live in a PC world, guess we have to have SAC with her kid on the obverse, but you have to like this reverse:

Also, I like th Barber Quarter Reverse...majesty, power, freedom, liberty...it says it all:

Can you tell, I like American Eagle Reverses...the TRUE Tails!

I prefer the birds in flight... like the Standing Liberty Quarter, but my coin doesn't look as nice as seamonkey's. :( :(

I see your point, Sylvester. That coin is truly unique in it's design.
How many others are octagonal, and have an owl sitting amongst a bunch of pine cones?

Connecticut could have had a winning "reverse". (I guess you could argue that all state quarters have the same reverse now and that the obverses are different) Instead, they chose an uninspired, plain looking tree. It should have looked more like:
