Question...Other than Ebay...what is the best way to get 50-roll boxes of the new 2017 P cent? I have gone to my bank here in California and my son has gone to the bank in No. Carolina and everyone tells us that they can't specify where they get there pennies from. My banks tell me I need to get hold of the Federal Reserve.
I would like to buy the new pennies from the bank at face value. Any suggestions?

Your bank is telling you the truth, they can't specifically order new coins or specific dates. Talking to the Federal Reserve Bank won't help because they only deal with their member banks not the general public.

You best chance is with your son since he is on the east coast. If his bank is a branch bank he needs to deal with the main branch and try to get them there. He still won't be able to order specific coins, it will still just be a matter of luck. Bu the main branch is more likely to get larger numbers of coin. It will also help if he lives in a large city because they will be more likely to receive larger amounts of coin. The Fed and armored car services tend to fill coin requests first with circulated coins and only ship out the new coin after their circulated coin stocks are depleted.

I emailed a few online coin dealers about finding good pricing on buying a few boxes since so many seem over priced. Some did not bother to respond. Some gave ridiculous prices. One told me something insane. They said they would easily beat eBay prices but I'd have to order in increments of tons! I guess they mostly sell to other dealers? Then some other dealers have theirs listed for 5x to 10x face value.

The tons one told me they were actually thinking of halting selling them to see what happens with the legislation being proposed to stop production of cents. Maybe that is why it is so hard to find them?

IMO, just be patient. They are producing tons of these. The standard procedure for the Federal Reserve is to use old coinage first. In time more of the 2017 P will be available. They are in no way rare.

The mint does not sell rolled 2017P cents at their store at the mint.

I live in Atlanta and haven't seen any examples of the 2017P, neither in change nor from the bank. Then last week I stopped by my local bank for a few rolls to search (8 in total) and every single roll was 2017P. I opened one in hopes of finding a nice high MS example but they were all badly spotted. I would also say just give it a little more time, they'll come to you eventually!

All I've found so far is the 2017D. Found a quarter and a dime, just need a nickel.

Well I live in central PA all we get are P mints but have seen no 2017 P yet asked my bank they look at me like I am nuts.
We do not even get copper cents anymore as the company that wraps them for the banks is pulling them all and selling them on ebay should be illegal.

    Why should it be illegal?
