    Hello,

I recently bought this note as I like to collect any "strange currency" that comes to my attention and then trying to find out what's their story.

So I would like to have your ideas about the meaning of these stamps & signatures on the reverse of this M22a 500 Lire note.

What I can read is "RAVANELLI", "LUIGI SCAGLIONI" and "PONTE DELL OLIO" (That's a place near Genova - North Italy).

    Thank you in advance,
    Vasilis

They are endorsements like you would find on a check. Cashiers checks were also circulating on Italy at this time. Some of these checks required endorsements but most did not. The AMC notes did not need them either but you can find them on the backs of 500 and 1000 lire notes. They may have been similar to chopmarks indicating the note was genuine as counterfeits were also in circulation.
