Hello All, I have been rattling around the Seleucid pages on WW and Forvm for a while trying to make sense of these two coins. I would guess both are Seleucid, maybe Ptolemaic; one having double cornucopiae on the reverse and the other being a serrate AE with what appears to be a male portrait on the obverse and a Seleucid style reverse with possibly Artemis standing between the legends which run vertically on left and right. The problem is that when the legends are mostly complete I am able to transliterate the Greek into Latin then figure out the ruler and go from there. In these two cases, the first coin appears to have a portrait of Zeus on the obverse with no legends and the reverse seems to have legends to the left and right but they are indecipherable to me. I just do not have enough experience looking at these. I am trying to learn more about them hence the unattributed purchases, but it is time to admit that I am stuck. A lot of the problem of attributing for me is that I have a hard time searching appropriately. When I go to WW for example, I try to search for double cornucopiae but I have to do it with each individual ruler in both Egypt and Seleucid pages. The general search always turns up too many results. Any advice on how to narrow down search fields, methods you guys use to go from a good guess to solid ID and help with these two AE is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Nick Coin one (4072 4073) is AE: 21.0 x 18.5mm. Appears to be head of Zeus, right, no legend on obverse. Reverse appears to be two cornucopiae with legends on either side, running vertically but indecipherable to me. Coin two (4082 (1) 4083 (1)) is an AE serrate 19.5mm. Appears to be a male head, not sure if diademed, but possibly, right, no legend on obverse. Reverse appears to be a standing figure of possibly Artemis, or Apollo, facing left, possibly holding arrow. Legends on left and right, running vertically.
I think your second coin might be Alexander II Zabinas. Head of Dionysos right, wreathed with ivy / Winged Tyche standing left, holding rudder and cornucopiae. Hoover 1166
