Suggestions of buyers/dealers in Atlanta?

Hey folks. I'm trying to help a good friend in Atlanta. His wife just inherited her father's coin collection. They are both very busy, have no interest in the items and would like to liquidate everything.

Unfortunately the collection consists almost entirely of state quarters, state quarter sets and recent dollars and dollar sets. I say "unfortunately" because it's the all-too-common story of an elderly man who suddenly became "obsessed" with coin collecting and, being uninformed but having money, turned to the most readily visible commercial sources: Littleton Coins, Danbury Mint, etc. What he has then, are the kinds of sets companies like these produce and he has them in multiples. (And I'm sure he paid dearly for them.)

I happened to be visiting my friends this weekend and went through as much of the collection as we could. In addition to the quarters and dollars—including proofs and some rolls—there is some silver melt, a few things in no-name slabs and finally, a very few things in reputable slabs.

While it sounds like a nice problem to have, my friends don't have the time to deal with it. Selling lots on ebay, for example, is not an option.

Would you know of any dealers in Atlanta who would 1), be interested in this collection and 2), give them a fair price for everything, including for the melt. My friends are not looking for top dollar, only to be treated fairly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, from your description of the collection, I wouldn't get their hopes up too high. It is very likely that they will lose substantial money on the deal.

I've already prepared them for this. I explained what companies like Danbury Mint do. Of course my friend's wife is furious that her dad bought this stuff and kept it hidden. It's a lot of stuff.

I explained that few dealers will show interest in a hoard of state quarters. I'd just like to get a few dealers for them to call who won't try to lowball them on the silver melt.

"my friend's wife is furious......." sounds like just another greedy relative to me. Believe me, I speak from the voice of experience.

Chris, fortunately, in this case, there are no other relatives involved; my friend's wife is an only child. They've already written this off as a foolish mistake by her doddering father. They were prepared to take most of it to the bank for face value; I talked them out of that.

I've not even mentioned the other "collections" he's started.
