I have been collecting Proof ASE for four years (2013) and now I am going backwards to get past years. I love the coin and it satisfies the OCD part of me to mindlessly repeat the same thing over and over. I am a crossroads for the 2012 issue. Do I get the single coin proof so that my collection looks consistent or get the two coin set or both? I know there is no right answer and it's personal preference but I want to see what other collectors did for 2012. Any advice welcome.
If you don't need both just go with the proof. If you can get a good price on the two coin set then I would consider it.
Unless you have some deep pockets, I suggest collecting only the regular edition proofs. The special editions, (reverse proofs etc... ) will cost you plenty more than the regular edition. The 1995 W was released with a gold set that was low mintage, and is a highly sought after, expensive coin. (Around $4K for a 69 ), a 70 will cost around 4-5 X that. Your choice. Have fun collecting whatever you like.
Only 30k of the 95w proof were produced. Sold in a 5 coin gold set for $1k so many did not buy it. Today a raw one will set you back $3-5k
A lot of folks bought the set and sold the gold. A few bad guys replaced the W mint coin with the normal proof for that year and sold the set to someone that did not know any better. I'll bet there are still some of those sets still out there.
Let Dansco decide: Dansco ASE Album #8182 for 2007 - 2012. Might as well also get the Dansco ASE Album #8181 for 1986 - 2006. It doesn't have a slot for the 95W, so OCD folks don't have to agonize trying to fill an expensive slot.
Well there is an answer, pretend it doesn't exist and you get a complete set. A grade 70 95-W will cost you a tiny house.
