Purchased this Antoninus Pius last year and decided to clean it up. Used usual methods as has been mentioned in other threads. Here are the before and after shots: Antoninus Pius AE Sestertius. 142 AD. ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P COS III, laureate head right / CONCORDIA EX-ERCITVVM S-C, Concordia standing left, holding Victory & aquila. Cohen 139. RIC 600 Feel free to post your own B4 and afters! Before: After: Coin is not as red in color as pics show. It's more dark brown.
Months of soaking in olive oil. Acetone along the way with a 600 grit diamond studded dental pick and a ton patience Along with toothpicks and cotton swabs. Oh and water while using the pick.
A much improved appearance, TJC. That sestertius turned out well. I recently gently cleaned this sestertius of Antoninus Pius: Before: After: two x 30 min acetone baths + a few drop of Verdicare.

Obv: L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP VIIII, laureate head right Rev: P M TR P V COS II P P, Genius, naked, standing half-left, holding patera, sacrificing over altar, and corn ears. RIC IV-1, 105; Cohen 437. After some distilled water soaking, with a couple acetone dips, and a rose thorn,
Tacitus before, sellers picks There is some green left on the coin but there is a lot of silvering which I may lose if I do more to it. On the reverse I think there is more silver under the muck, but I think I will leave it alone. And tilted slightly to show the silvering.
