Hello all, my first post here, and the reason I joined up.

I've had this 1917 Australian Shilling for some time. It's pretty worn, but the weird thing is that there are two very heavy punch marks on the tail side, so heavy that they come through to the head side. Can anyone tell me what the significance of this might be?

    Thanks in advance. 14917092724272133680980.jpg 1491709335778544719443.jpg

Looks like an ex-jewellery that has been repaired?

Jewelry sounds pretty reasonable. The placement looks fairly thought-out, so it probably isn't random damage.
