Title says it all (that and the pics). This is my first post 1992 Silver Proof Half Dollar Find. Almost makes you want to cry the abuse this coin must have endured. The only thing that makes sense to me is that it got run over on the street.
I'd guess it was intentional and tools were used. A lot of this kind of thing happens and most end up in the garbage. This coin was a little more valuable than what usually gets treated this way.
It always amazes me what I find other people have done to coins. I've found halves in similar shape, but never a proof. Still, you'd think they'd have something better to do with their time.
You know at least this about them, they (or their parents) were rich enough to not appreciate the value of money.
Perhaps somebody bought that to commemorate their wedding year, and the marriage went bad? Then they were like, take this, you stupid coin! :hammer:
Maybe someone was trying to create their own 'mint error / die error' coin & it just went bad so they took it out on the coin ...
Definitely intentional I'd say. Looks like the works of a hammer and screwdriver...and possibly a mad divorced, or recently seperated, wife. She must have beat the mans collection, every coin, one by one, then loaded them in her car and tossed them out the window scattering the entire collection along the roadsides of your county. Just my opinion.
Wow ... are you guessing from past experiences?? Seems like just selling them all for 1/10 of face value would have been painful enough...
