What percentage of import duy would I pay if I bought coins from America and took them back to the UK. Thanks. J.
are you shipping them back into the country? what metal are they? Gold does not get charged vat or import duty as long as it is sold at market value. If the items come in ticked as a gift then it is about £32 total value including shipping if they come in as merchandise it stands at £18 including shipping before you get taxed at the vat rate. Now this is where it can get a bit complicated as EU rullings say they can ignore I thing it is up to £7 over that value LOL Check out the customs & Excise web site for detailed info
and, what is wrong with that? It's the American way! (Of course, I'd never do that! Hello, Big Brother.)
I doubt you get taxed unless you are trying to smuggle over 10,000 pounds or dollars worth through the airport customs (somewhere around there). However mailing is another thing though.
Pay someone to take them there. Send them via USMail and state metal parts of a hobbiest nature. Put them inside the handle of a gun. The airport will put them in an armament box for shipping. Pour liquid plastic all over them and claim them as a paper weight. Go to Mexico and hire thier people to take the coins there. They can get in anywhere. There are oh so many methods available.
o-k-a-y. And some times it is just fun to have a good time and kid, unless that is against the rules also.
I'm thinking of buying some coins through the mail, and I am fed up of trying to translate the jargon which the customs write in. Thanks for comments... De Orc, are you saying if I buy something for say $300, then I only pay $64 tax on it ?
Lets see $300 = £150 aprox you are entitled to £18 so £150 - £18 = £132 therfore you would pay 17.5% of that in import duty £23.10 plus on top of this you would have to pay the Post office somewhere in the region of between £4 to £8 to collect the tax from you givin a grand total of £27.10 to £31.10 to pay (Not sure if they have put up there rate yet) You would also have to go to your local sorting office to pick up the item and would need proof of ID Now my figures are just aproxamations I have not checked that the rates have not changed since I last had to pay, which was about a year ago. Hope that this helps
Where would we be if the Founding Fathers tried to set a good example for their kids and had not committed treason?
