Here is another tetradrachm I acquired of Severus Alexander. This one features a neat "spike chin" similar to the famous U.S. Large Cent.

Only got it since it went cheap.

    Totally looks like :)

So, not only do modern coins steal their eagles and seated deity designs from ancient coins, they also stole ancient errors? :wacky: :D

Are you sure Severus Alexander wasn't just a hipster trying to grow a Van Dyke goatee? :) Cool coin.

It's crusty & maybe could be cleaned, but I like it as is.

Very nice Mat - me likey!! I don't have any Severus Alexander coins to show, but I can play the 1804 1/2 Cent:

Great coin! I think you should slab it, call it the "Severus Alexander Spiked Chin LIBERTY Eagle", and sell it to the Modern collector for a FORTUNE (hey, it's SLABBED!)

    Interesting!

I wonder if the spike occurred in antiquity in the same way as reportedly with the 1804 half cent, i,e through a slip of the engraving tool.

My example of the 1804 1/2 Cent- Spike Chin:

Im sure there may be someone who'd fall for it.

Nice Spike, Eduard. I have always liked these. I just have a half cent of the type, no spike on it.

Not sure if that is a die-break... I think it is the die-maker's rendition of "just after a sneeze"...
