Hello all, I was wondering if anyone will be at the Chicago Coin Expo tomorrow. I will be. Hope to run into some of you there.

I've been all around the world many times, but other than flying through O'Hare I've never been to Chicago. This weekend will make no difference. I'm moving on Friday. Besides, North is not my desired travel.

    Good luck.

I've been the last four or five years but won't make it this year. It's a fun show and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Edit: After a little research I see this is a new event. The International Coin Fair I usually attend won't be held this year. Let us know how this one is.

The name Chicago is derived from the local Indian word chicagoua for the native garlic plant (not onion) Allium tricoccum

*sigh* ... I will not be in Chicago (sadly, I will be closer to several other northern cities named from other local Indian words)

Friday, you should try to make it to one of the shows up here. With some planning ahead of time I think you can make it and also make it a fun show for you. For all of the $4000 ancients I saw today I saw two $25 ancients. I can give you advice on places to stay and go and eat that will keep your budget reasonable. All of the tourist traps are expensive but there is some of the best food in the world here in places that are $10.

I'm not sure where you are going but I hope that you have a nice time.

The show was great. I spent too much money because I found too many good things to buy at prices I shouldn't ignore. I added so many pieces that I wanted I can't really feel bad about blowing the budget.

Alegandron, sorry I am not sure of who you are or I would have said hi. I meant to send you a message earlier as I walked in but I immediately got sidetracked by a few Chicago Coin Club members I know. Then I dug through a few boxes of coins and it was three hours later all of a sudden. Send me a pm if you like. It would be nice to know you.

Yes the event is new. If you compare dealer lists from last year's CICF and this year's Chicago Expo you will see that they are pretty much identical. Apparently Krause Publications who ran CICF decided to end the show because it didn't fit with their business plan or something. And then Harlan Berk decided to continue the theme of the show with the new event. All of the usual dealers were there and so I saw a lot of friendly faces and bought some great coins that I am excited about.

Thanks Mikey. I think you did bring me some good luck. I have been looking for a Cappodocian drachma and found one for $45 in VF. Also picked up a lot of other type coins like that for really good prices. I hope to run into you up here soon.

Well unlike the past week, today was not terrible in Chicago weather wise. And the show was good even if everyone was sort of out of their element in the new place.

Sorry I missed meeting you at the show today. Unfortunately, I had to leave prematurely for family reasons. I regret that I will not be able to return to the show.

It's too bad for me. I live very close to the old venue in Rosemont, but I'm much less likely to travel to the city for a show.

    Hidden dragon:
See, the opposite of that is true for me. I live on the south side, so driving to Rosemont meant I had to cross the entire city to the NW to get there. This was only 15 minutes away which was a nice change.

Just got home from a great time in Chicago. The show was really fun, held in a very interesting and beautiful building, and I bought some great coins. I saw several CoinTalker's who I've known from before and met one new. Here's a couple of pics, most of which were taken during the setup/preview when there wasn't many people there. It was busier on opening day (the top photo).

Need to take photos. Maybe tomorrow if I'm not too hungover. ;)

The building used to be library, apparently. I heard that the stained glass domes are Tiffany. Really fantastic.
