I messaged this seller about an error in this listing and they replied that they "were trying to fix it". The error is wrong grade of MS66RD when it should be MS65RD. It appears to be to intentional to deceive buyers because it's wrong in the title, item specifics AND description. I ended up reporting it to ebay under search & browse manipulation. I would recommend messaging the seller and/or reporting the listing also.
I've reported a few that I've seen were selling obvious fakes but I have no clue what action if any has been taken by Ebay other than pulling the listing.
I don't think they can change the listing because someone has placed a bid on the item. They would have to cancel the bid and the auction and list the coin again.
I got a message today that the auction had been cancelled so hopefully they get it right in the future.
It's been a few months since I listed items on ebay as a seller. But then I could make a change or atleast a "note" to show that there's a correction to the listing, but it's up to the buyer to scroll down to show there's been an addition or correction to the listing. Is that not an option anymore?
Once you have a bid you can't change anything without rejecting the bid. Then you have to worry about pissing off a potential buyer. Anyhow the best way to handle it once you have a bid is to inform the bidder and cancel the auction and restart it. Most bidders are pretty understanding and rebid if you have made an honest listing error. I have never had any real problems.
Unless it's someone trying to pass off multiple, obvious fakes, I almost always message first. People who don't typically sell coins sometimes list some really bad cast fakes, and, 90% of the time, when I explain why I know it's fake, they take it down.
I never sold coins until recently. I'm always worried about someone arguing the fine points of exact condition. At times condition can be a matter of judgement when it gets to the finer points and as a collector I get that. I always try to be as honest as I can and with things of that caliber allow returns. I have been burnt once though on returns. I have over the years sold surplus items I pick up. A few examples are everything from recent blank VHS tapes to a tap box for a bar. I get people correcting me about small things all the time and love it when they do. Once someone has bid however it can only go into the question area and then only if you click the little show this question in the auction box which I always do. I enjoy learning about the different things and people have always been understanding as long as I've let them know I was wrong about something and I'm honest with them. Such as a standard keg of beer is actually considered either a half or quarter keg and then there are the sixtels, oh the crap I learn. Of course some items there is very little to be wrong about.
