Then why don't they just give up the pretense and wholesale the whole mintage to a couple of resellers, as they do for bullion coins?

    That always works!

You talk to them from the point of view of the individual collector and they look at you like you're speaking Greek. They quite literally never heard that kind of talk.

Keyword wholesale. To get retail prices something has to be offered at retail. The super fast sellout has also now created added interest in the silver set when they release that later on which usually isn't a product that causes much if any hype.

I think that means we get Bullion Exchanges' rejects.

    A. 2 coins per HH, that's 37,500 shipments they have to make.
    B. No HH limit, that's about 5,000 shipments they have to make.

Here's a link to file an online complaint with the U.S. Treasury Department Inspector General. You can file anonymously and mint mismanagement is a legit complaint. If they get a bunch of these, they may do something about it.

    https://www.treasury.gov/about/organizational-structure/ig/Pages/OigOnlineHotlineForm.aspx

    Here's a sample complaint:

David Motl, Acting Principal Deputy Director
    United States Mint

I am filing this complaint because of mismanagement (or worse) by David Motl, Acting Principal Deputy Director of the United States Mint. The U.S. Mint under Mr. Motl’s direction repeatedly offers limited edition coins in a manner that allows a few large business interests to monopolize the entire issue. The most recent abuse was an offering for the 2017 Congratulations Set on April 4, 2017 with no ordering limits. This issue sold out in less than two minutes and most collectors were shutout. It appears from aftermarkets sales, a few large dealers bought most of the sets. Please review Mr. Motl’s business practices in order to assure all U.S. Mint customers have a chance to purchase their offerings. Thank You.

What's your point? If the shipping department at the Mint thinks it's over-exerted, perhaps they should apply for $6 an hour jobs at Wal Mart

They don't even use real Mint staff to handle fulfillment. I think a jobber does it. It's somewhere in the south, I don't remember exactly where. Look at a shipping carton.

News about these coins were posted on forums well in advance, but no one seemed to be interested, because there was hardly in conversation about them. Only after a quick sellout do people seem to care. Weird.

I think it's, keep your mouth shut if you want a chanced to get an order accepted.

Based on order numbers people are posting, actual orders are likely significantly less. probably less than 2,000...

How many orders that have to be processed should not even be an issue.

My order status was moved to "backorder" and the order amount reduced to $0.00. A US mint CSR chat person said this was because the product was unavailable (no kidding). I asked if that meant I was in line to get my order once product was available or if I was SOL and my order was to be canceled. The response was backorders will be filled once product is available. I will probably ask again tomorrow to see if I get the same answer. Hoping this is just a fulfillment delay and not an oversold situation.

I was interested but never mentioned it.

I also bought last years !

I was hoping to pick up this years too, I didn't think there was going to be that much demand. I was on the website on time but the "REMIND ME" never disappeared even after refreshing all the time.

One should assume a very quick sellout every time if it's something they want to make sure they get.
