Picked this up over the weekend. 1927-S S.L. Quarter PCGS F-15 2nd Lowest Mintage in the S.L. Series behind the Ultra Rare 1916. PCGS lists this as Scarce in grade AG-03 to GD-06. Stating that aprox 95% of known survivors fall into these grades. VG F VF and XF coins are Really Rare and Choice Mint State examples are "Monster Rarities"
These held up much better with the Recessed Date then the ones with the Pedestal date. But this one does have a strong date and Mint Mark.
SLQs are beautiful coins, and in VG and F grades you can find some lovely ones with some quality cherry picking. Collecting a set IMO is quite the challenge, more so than Mercury Dimes and Walkers
1927-S SL 25c are nice to own, but lower grades are not at all rare. This is a classic example of a condition rarity, relatively plentiful in lower grades and scarce to rare in higher grades, say XF and up. At any rate, a coin in F15 doesn't qualify as a "monster rarity," in my opinion.
I think you misread my post. I quoited from the PCGS website which states VG F VF and XF examples are Really Rare. And Choice Mint State examples are "Monster Rarities" It continues to say They are only "Semi-scarce" in grades AG-03 to GD-06.
Picked up another 27-S Quarter from the same dealer I got the other one from. This one is ungraded but I feel it's actually a higher grade than the slabbed one I bought. scmedic
