I bought a nickel lot on ebay a few weeks back. The auction stated 115 Jefferson nickel RPM's for the most part circulated w/ a couple of BU coins. I won the lot for $15 and change w/$10 S&H. The majority of the 'RPM's' are nothing more than machanical doubling but this is what I have found. 4 1955 D/S OMM (All different varieties) Fine 2 1941 S Large S Fine 1 BU 1942 P/P RPM #019 Full Steps MS63-64 1 BU 1953 D/D 1 1940 S/S RPM #001 1 1946 D/horizontal D fine Along with several other RPM's I haven't identified yet and several I'm not sure if they are actual RPM's. So out of the 115 nickels I got appox. 20 RPM's and some nice ones to boot. Overall a sweet lot I do say!
nickelman: Nice buy, especially since you were probably upset at first, and, then all worked out to your advantage. I do hate when I get ripped off on the excessive psotage. I accept a buck or two for packaging etc, but $10 for that lot is really steep. Congratulations.
I agree, I have only found one 1946D/Hor D. I cherried it from a set of Jefferson nickels, I had to buy the set to get the one piece, but it was worth it! Never found the 1942 D/ hor D. I have cherried #3 1939 DDR's tho, and it feels great to do it! Nice finds.
Well, some times ya just got to take a chance on ebay!! After putting these away for several months now I finely got back to them. 1 1949 D/S fine 12 what I believe to be a late die state 1946 D/inverted D Fine 12 - Now this will be a sweat find if it is what I think it to be. What do ya'll think? Still haven't finished with these - although I'm pretty sure every thing else are either very minor RPM's and machine doubling except maybe a 1958 D I am taking a very close look at D/Inverted D ???? Then when I get more time go through tese again.
nickelman: I don't think that it is a D/Hor D. There should be more of the curve to the left. But, I have been wrong (just ask my wife she keeps a list, I think).
Try War Nickels then! The mintmarks on those coins are pretty big and there is a good many RPM's known for those years. While sometimes it is hard to tell if you have an RPM or not....some of them are just plan cool! 1958-D/D/D Speedy
Well Twiggs I fully understand. How I ended up collecting Jefferson RPM's I don't know, its like driving down the interstate and missing an exit. It's to dangerous to back up so you have to go to the next exit and turn around to get back to where you intended to be. Sometimes it's a long way to the next exit. LOL I haven't got the the next exit yet but I'm enjoying the ride till I get there.
