How's the luster on it? Is it a really flashy coin or a bit on the subdues side? The photo's look like it could go either way, but I'm leaning towards a bit subdued and not a luster bomb. I ask, because it's clean enough to possible go 67 but it would also need the luster to go 67 as well. If the luster isn't there, then I would say a 66 and in that case, would not be worth sending in. Another thing to consider, have you checked it to see if it's a D/D or D/S variety? I can't quite tell that from the images. If it's a variety, then it might be worth submitting at 66.
Yes I checked for mm varieties. Nothing. The luster is great it's has so much color. Pink and gold. I can't seem to capture the best part of it.
If it's something you are putting in your personal collection and don't plan to sell anytime soon, then it may be worth it to you to send in for grading.
Thanks everyone! I'm thinking 66 maybe 67 personally. It's easy to be optimistic when it's your own coin. Looks like a M.A.D on both obv and rev.
Considering the date and that it looks MS65, possibly MS66, it wold be a waste of money to get it slabbed since you can buy a comparable slabbed one for at or below what the grading costs will be.
I would say MS65 or a possible 66. I personally wouldn't grade it as the $40 or $50 Greysheet on it in 65 and 66 wouldn't justify the expense. Even getting a 67 ($150) isn't that much of a jackpot and I NEVER seem to get the lofty grades.
Not going to guess on the grade, but if you feel you want to submit, submit. Me I am not one to submit ever. Just my thing. However that is a beautiful coin! Stunning. and if it is toned, all the better.
Nice buffalo, from your images really can't read the luster. Also make sure you check the mm as there's quite a few check both Wexler and Varietyvista.com . As you may have one of the rarer rpm's. As for grading run it through Anacs if it grades then decide whether to go pcgs or ngc. No matter what others say....on these I take the chance as buffalo's are hard to grade. So not everyone has knowledge to make a call. Besides if it does come back a high grade you got a real keeper.
Also there is strike, which PCGS is pretty good at overlooking in my experience. If it has nice luster and is clean then I might go for it. The other option is slab it yourself and wait to see if prices dictate a TPG slab later. Either way I would preserve it so it stays in this shape. Remember coins are like people "I may not look good, but this is as good as I am going to look!"
