Sweet coins, errbody! Here is a double strike my brother picked up late last year. *STUPID QUESTION ALERT* Is this Septimus Severus? Props to you Erin
I have trouble believing this Constantine follis was not created deliberately - perhaps on a slow day at the mint by a bored worker? (Hey guys - lookit what I can do!) it's a 180º turn-around on both sides, but carefully done with the legend repeating Constantine's name at top and bottom, lining-up the body of the eagle with Jupiter's left arm, etc. http://www.stoa.org/gallery/album164/52_Constantine_I_Follis_313_ICA_HER?full=1
Super-cool example, lehmansterms ... Man, that's a trophy-coin!! I wish my OP-example had your obverse
that's almost an m. c. eschar type reverse! it kind of messes with my head how the two strikes are aligned! cool new coin stevex!
Yes, Septimius Severus from Odessos in Thrace "CEVHPOC" is the Greek-letter form of "Severus" "C" is always an "S" in Greek - "H" is an alternative "E" - and "P" (Rho) is the letter "R" in Greek, so his name is quite clearly readable between 1:00-5:00 obverse
Thank you sir! I'm a total doofus when it comes to reading legends. That's something that I really need to work on. My brother is better than I am, but, we didn't have any info on the coin. The seller took it down off ebay before we wrote down the info. Erin
Erin, if you are using a windows based computer, I use the Snippit ap. I cut and save the pics, then cooy and paste the verbiage just before or after I purchase online. I usually drop it into an email to myseld, or into word or excel. It ensures I never lose the purchase info, attributes, pics, etc. snippit will save pics as easy to use jpegs. Quick and easy. I use the ap everywhere, even in this Forum.
It's almost as though the wall-sections have each grown legs and the youth in the center is directing a dance between them. I had to look at this one a while before I could really see it as the "Hut" type Fel Temp majorina. The citing of Escher is especially apt - it fools you - not your senses, per-se, but your ability to process what you're seeing is tested looking at something like this. Thanks for sharing!
Yah, I merely wanted to "Summarize" my last week's Wednesday CNG wins ... => 5 of 'em!! ... and heeeeeere they are!! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancients-skylla-owl-ya-gotta-love-wednesday.293760/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancients-golden-fleece.293822/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancients-zeus-pan.293850/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancients-photo-finish-at-the-wire.293907/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancients-double-double-strike-strike.293982/
