Another, for the life of me, I cannot identify. I don't even know if it's orientated correctly but any help with an ID on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tom
Baroda y32 2 Paisa (1883-1893) copper. I think this is close, India Princely States. Top photo is inverted. Might be 1 paisa.
Last year in N.H. I picked up a nice collection of India coins. The Brits sure made identifying them a lot easier.
The ID to Baroda is correct, your coin is dated 1948 in the Vikrama Samvat era which is 1891 AD. If that coin flip is half dollar size, then you have the 2 paisa; the 1 paisa is the same diameter as a US quarter. (Your top picture is upside down, bottom is correct orientation, BTW.) Not much catalog value, but a cool coin. Keep posting them, this is fun!
Coin looks too well made for an Indian mint (of that era). Look closely, you might see a tiny H mint mark for Birmingham, England's "Heaton" mint.
Well then, if I can impose upon you once again, here is another that I cannot identify. Krause photos are dreadful on some of these. India, but after that I'm the chump that's stumped. Weight is 3.4 grams. Thanks again. Tom
Well, if the coin in post 10 makes you "the chump that's stumped", that makes two of us. Definitely looks like it is from somewhere in India, but it's just too worn for me to make out anything useful. I'm not even sure whether or not it's in the correct orientation, which is kind of the first thing to figure out. Unless there is some wizard reading this thread who can figure it out, this may have to stay in the mystery pile. Sorry about that, my coin ID magic has its limits.
That's okay, but thank you for weighing in. I'll give this a dip in acetone to see if I can at least bring out more detail on the one good side that is dirty.
