Interesting. (The patina, I mean, but oh man, would I love to see one of those beautiful Andean lakes like the one pictured in the OP!)
I found this sestertius of Thrax in Baltimore yesterday, celebrating victory over those pesky Germans, VICTORIA GERMANICA. I feel sorry for collectors of moderns that will never know the joy of holding a big fat crusty sestertius.
Nice find JA. How was the Baltimore show? I have this one that has a bit of bipolar patina goin on. Probably should reshoot this one.
Great - I did some buying and selling, found a handful of cool stuff for my auctions, and had lunch and a long, interesting conversation with the guys that run Agora. Carpooled with another Coin Talk member and talked coins all the way there and back. It was a perfect day. When I die, hold the virgins - I want heaven to be one endless coin show.
I've only one ancient that does not have this. However I do have a few US coins that do. Allow me to start making money again and a few other ancients will be coming home. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk

Interesting you raise the topic of bi-polar patinas - here is a good example: I thought that somebody had messed with it - I like your explanation better.
