It's a reverse . I looked on variety vista but didn't find anything . I've been spend the last few weeks buying coins and inspecting them And using sites you all shared What do you think? ☺️
Hi. ☺️ You know from what I saw in this photo in the variety vista wasn't much to go on . I wish I knew more about minting and pressing and what goes on when it presses and what went on back in the day. It looks to me like there was a separate pressing for the eagle on to of the blank and some of the metal leaked out some around a number of the feathers on this one side
You certainly do need to learn more about the minting process. Suits are pressed at the cleaners. Coins are struck at the Mint. Planchet metal doesn't leak into the devices. It flows outward toward the rim from the pressure of the strike. To my knowledge, there is no such term as "machine die" in numismatics. Perhaps you mean machine doubling. In any event, machine doubling is very common and not worth a premium. Maybe you are thinking of a doubled die. Chris
