    Sure, this is one of those coins that'll grab the interest of the ancient dudes and the medieval folk ... I love both groups of coiners, so I hope everybody gets a chance to comment on my 2nd score from Wednesday's auction!!

    ITALY, Napoli (Regno). Filippo III di Spagna.
    AR Mezzo carlino – zanetta

    Napoli (Naples) mint. Struck 1609-1611
    1598-1621 AD
    Diameter: 17 mm
    Weight: 1.11 grams
    Obverse: Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right
    Reverse: Badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece with central pellet suspended within wreath; in wreath, crosses above and below
    Reference: MIR 216/1; Pannuti-Riccio 30a
    Other: 12h … VF, toned

    Hey, all I have is 4th and 5th Century BC ram-coins (oh, and the new medieval) ... does anybody else have any other ram-coins? ... hmmm, are there any Roman ram coins?

    Obv:- ΑΥΤ ΚAI AN-ΤΩΝΙΝΟC CΕ, Laureate draped and cuirassed bust right seen from the rear
    Rev:- ∆ΗΜΑΡΧ ΕΞ ΥΠΑΤΟCΤΟ ∆, Eagle standing facing, head left, wings open, wreath in beak, ram's head left between legs
    Minted in Damascus (Syria). A.D. 215-217 (Prieur)
    Reference:- Prieur 1209 (5 examples cited)

    Wonderful posts!!!

    That's a very cool coin and I was initially mystified as to why the 'fleece' was chosen..... So I LOVED reading the link and the connection between the 'pagan' golden fleece and this 'Christian Knightly Order'

    I seem to lack rams or sheep but here's a couple of goats:p

    I don't have a single ram, but I do have a Medieval Italian coin:

    Italy, Doges of Venice, AR Grosso, 289-1311 (?) AD. Christ enthroned/Doge and St. Mari, standing facing, holding banner between them. Holed.

    Here is a disputed coin... perhaps not proven first Egyptian coin... but it DOES have a Ram on the obverse. And it is the ONLY Ram coin I have... so, I am fending off the Wrath of @TIF... :D :D :D
