Curious to find out the value of this dime I found. It has a back and a rim, but no face (obverse). Found it this year in a roll from my bank. Wear on the back and rim is consistent with about a 2012 coin. Thanks! - Chris View attachment 406444 View attachment 406445
Thanks! Yeah I got pretty excited when I saw it. Is there an established value for such a thing? Just curious. It will stay in my collection of errors. Thank you!
Wow seriously? That's awesome!! Whew. Well I figured it was rare. Mine's circulated. Came to me from my bank in a plain old roll, so I have to believe it's real. Looks just like any other dime from the back and side. I also found a copper slug in a dime roll that could either be a dime core from the mint, or someone's joke. Seems silly to use copper as a joke, though.
I wouldn't put too much faith in those prices though, it seems like people are just asking moon prices on most of them. I have no idea what the actually sell for.
Here's another shot of the back of that dime, along with the copper core, or whatever. The copper piece is just a bit smaller than a dime, so I figure it could be a core. <shrugs>
I don't know about a hundred to two thousand dollars. I have a few capped coins in my collection raw and certified in all denominations. Never paid more than $60.00 - You might be thinking of coins with mirror brockages which are valued at higher prices. This Dime is not that type of Brockage.
Now you confused me. Copper Core? Where did that come from? You make it sound like it came from your Dime.
Sorry if I confused you. The copper disc came in another roll of dimes. I think it may be a copper core blank, but don't know. I found both on the same day in different rolls. Both rolls were from my bank, machine rolled.
I was going off of asking prices on eBay, but like I said a few posts later, it just seemed like people were reaching.
Unless it has an upset rim, it's very hard to prove that it is missing the clad layer on both sides even if the weight is about the same. I doubt that someone did it as a joke. They were probably just too cheap to wait until they got one more dime for the roll. Chris
You're probably right about the proving part, Chris. The copper disc is just exactly the right size to fool me, though. Find it hard to think that someone would have made it to fill a roll. Would take a metal smith. Also, this came in a bank roll, so it was close enough to fool a roller machine. <shrugs>
Hi I found this dime with no face and copper showing through. I can't read the last number in the date but it looks like 1984. Does anyone have a value of what it may be worth or if it's rare?
This thread is two years old. If you start a new thread (with pictures of your coin), you'll get much more attention.
