I have a 1989 penny with unusual markings and was wondering if anyone could tell me any information on it ? I have tried to find one sinilar online with no avail. Thank you.
Angela, welcome to CT. What you have is called PMD (post-mint damage, something done to the coin after it was minted). In the case of this cent, perhaps a cold chisel or something similar. It is worth one cent. Steve
First, welcome to the neighborhood @AngelaTay2911 ! I have some sad news for you. Lincoln is dead, but he wasn't hacked to death. Keep in mind that most Mint errors are usually one-time occurrences. So, the likelihood of you finding another exactly like it, among the 7.2+ billion that were produced, is very slim. Once you have a better understanding of the minting process, you will quickly recognize mangled coins like this as post-mint damage (PMD). Chris
