I think I found an error already. On the edge lettering, there is a "Phantom" 7 after the stamped date of 2007. It is probly struck at about 1/4 of the pressure of the actual date. Do you fine gentlemen think this would classify as an error ? These pics are the best I can do at the moment.
When the Washington Dollars first came out this type "error" was selling for $100+ now you're lucky if someone bids a couple of dollars. The Adams dollars with this type error never got over a couple of dollars either.
To me, it really doesn't matter if its worth a few dollars or a few thousand. If you like it and you're an error coin collector, add it to your collection. I dont collect error coins but I have a 2003 Maine Washington Quarter thats missing a clad layer on the obverse. It may only be worth a few bucks but I put it in a 2x2 and stuck it away.
I think a missing clad layer on a state quarter is worth about $200-$400, depending on which side. Maybe my price guide is a bit high though...
I really don't plan on selling it. I will try to get better pics. I did try to buy another one on eBay that had a U between the 2007 and the P making it a "7UP" dollar....lol How about some pics of my latest injury ?
Coin collecting can be hazardous. How did you do that full contact cherry picking at the last show. LOL
LOL@"full contact cherry picking" That sounds like something I would do. I accidently cut it on a blade, on a machine at work. 11 stitches, 4 inside, 7 outside. It never really hurt though.
:goofer: That will leave a nice scar, I got some this summer, I gonna tell everyone I got it in a knife fight when I go back to school. :goofer:
Some people will do anything to get out of work! Just kidding. Be careful out there - NO JOB is worth losing something you can't replace!
Most of these coin that are found to have extra letters and/or number digits should be legitimate errors! (I say most, as long as these were not due to Post Mint manipulation.) I have found and sold as well as still own quite a few Washington and Adams Dollars which have extra letters within the "Edge Inscriptions" that are not supposed to be there. The difference between your's and the ones that I have found, is that your's is an extra "7" after the Date, while mine are extra rightside up or upside down, inverted letters (in other words, backwards "G's", "D's", "E's", etc.). Many of these were significant enough for research and resell, that Larry Briiggs with SEGS, purchased more than half of the error coins that I had when I attended the last Chattanooga Coin Show!
