Finally! Only this week managed to get a photo of my Secret Saturnalia present. Huge thanks to Theodosius for this gorgeous Galerius follis. A in left field. Exergue: Mint: Trier (293-305 AD) Wt./Size/Axis: 10.30g / 27mm / - References: RIC IV Treveri 158b p180 Post your Galerius or Secret Saturnalia presents, or anything.
I thought "Secret Saturnalia" was suppose to be secret. Nice coin and very nice gift. Here are a couple of Gallerius. I posted my "SS" coin in another thread recently
Nice Bing. I got a Diocletian Moneta a while back. It cleaned up quite a bit, I daren't do any more for fear of losing the silvering.
Nice! Galerius is a sweet spot for me. Haven't posted these before. As Caesar (293-305), argenteus, Rome mint, VIRTVS MILITVM, four tetrarchs sacrificing before city walls with six turrets, nothing in ex. As Caesar (293-305), follis, Trier mint, MONETA S AVGG ET CAESS N N, Moneta standing left, holding scales and cornucopiae, star in right field, ATR in ex. I guess I need to get something of Galerius as Augustus...
Great coin @Pishpash ! These were nice big honkers! RI Galerius 293-308 AE30mm Folles Ticinum mint Moneta 12g
Neat Saturnalia prezzie, pish. Coins of the First Tetrarchy always puts me in a festive mood... thanks, @Eng! Secret Saturnalia 2014: MAXIMIAN AE Follis. 10.3g, 29.6mm. Cyzicus mint, AD 297-299 AD. RIC VI Cyzicus 12b. O: IMP CMA MAXIMIMANVS P F AVG, laureate head right. R: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI, Genius standing left pouring libation from patera & holding cornucopiae; KЄ in ex.
I love these coins everybody. You certainly know you are holding money when you have a few of these in your hand.
Every once in a while you just have to take things into your own hands to know if something you read is really true... Verdict: no argument from me .
That's a wonderful coin and a fantastic S.S. gift @Pishpash!!! Yep, it's hard not to LOVE a big Follis, especially in hand Since so many terrific examples have already been posted, I'll throw in my argenteus of the Tetrarchy, featuring Diocletian:
3 months behind on your pics? man, that makes me feel better, i'm about 2 weeks behind. here's my favorite (and only) gallerius follis...but it is sweet!
Great looking coin Chris. I love the patina. It always reminds me of a cool, very fine iron rust patina...
