Just my informal survey but it seems that the auctions around the Milwaukee show has brought in large price increases. I was looking at a SLQ Type I slabbed at MS65 and passed on it after it blew through the $3000 price level and sold finally at $3700+. I thought this coin would have sold at about $2500. The high grade MS Ikes I was looking at also sold for almost 25% greater prices than history.

Has anyone else noticed a price bulge at the Milwaukee auctions?

There were some very strong auction results at Milwaukee, especially in certain areas. I thought that many large cents were bringing very strong money. As always, there were a few coins that slipped through the cracks, especially in areas that are a little soft presently. But overall, I felt that prices realized were strong.

As a generality (which means there are lots of exceptions) the big price jumps belong to the high grade coins.
For the ordinary collector those high grade price jumps will eventually drag the prices up on the lower grade coins.

What's interesting is that these results were in the face of what had been until now a clearly softening coin market. Across the board, when compared to prices 2 years ago, prices have been softening.

And then this result in Milwaukee.
