I am trying to identify this Asian collectible.

I've tried Google image search and several other approaches, but have failed to identify this item. It is not iron, given its weight, I think it is more likely silver. There is logographic writing on the flat sections on top only. It appears to have been built up by hammering sheet upon sheet of metal.

Does anyone know what this is?

I should add that it is slightly over 2" in its longest dimension and around 5/8" at its thickest dimension.

Looks like a Chinese silver sycee. It is how they used silver in China.

Lots of fakes though, so it would have to be verified by someone knowledgable in the area.

Here's a sycee out of Google images. The OP's looks very worn, with its Chinese characters hardly distinguishable.

For a backup image search, try: www.tineye.com

Results are erratic, but hey, it's free.

Sorry, my photo was from my webcam. It's not as worn as appears in the photo. Now that I know what to call it, research will be easier. I appreciate the help. I'll have more questions as I work through the uncatalogued collection I inherited.
