Are these 1936 proofs or could someone have cleaned and polished a normal 1936? I have three and ill put all three on here in different posts to this thread. Thanks for the help. IMG_1834.JPG IMG_1836.JPG

you will run across some 1936 and 1937 uncirculated cents, nickels, dimes,
quarters, and half dollars that have been highly polished with a product called
“jeweler’s rouge” that imparts a proof like appearance to the coin but upon close
inspection there will be a lot of hairlines that were imparted onto the coin by
the vigorous polishing. And these altered coins will also lack the pinpoint detailing
    of a real proof coin.

you must be careful with these fake proofs on fleabay as I have seen a number
of 1936 buffed up buffs that were presented as proofs. Same goes for 1937d
3 leggers, and especially this one where fakes are offered as proofs. Some of
the Chineese fakes are offered as real coins too.

They probably graded VG-F before they were polished within an inch of their lives. Don't know when I've seen a more buffed-up Buffalo nickel.

I've never dealt with old proofs, but I know on the Lincolns the rim is sharp, not round and mushy. The same may be true with buffs, I'm sure someone will confirm or rebuke this.

guess you should call those buffed 36 & 37 nickels “buffedalo" nickels

My life goal is all the sudden obtaining one for my modest collection, too bad they cost so much! Them sunz a benches!!
Im glad i clicked on the link because i wasnt aware of any '27 special strike until now. Wonder what the dealio is w that coin?
2 Hillbillies playing around on 3rd shift? Hmmmmm....:shifty:
I like how $1000+/- should buy a proof 63 Buff, even if its the rarest date (1916)

I would love to obtain a matte proof buffalo and a brilliant proof.

Coin Facts is a wonderful place. There are some nights I sit back with a glass of scotch and look at all the coins they show that I will probably never own. I do however own a 1904 Indian cent graded MS-64+BN that they have shown on CoinFacts. It's also a pop 1 coin lol.

That '27 was probably made by the same guy who did the 1913 V nickels lol.

Yes, you can get a matte proof 63 1916 buffalo nickel for around $1000.
Only problem is finding one. They are very scarce in 63 condition.

Hello All, I am Brand New to this Forum. I have a Beautiful 1913 and a 1916 Buffalo Nickels. They look Brand New, as if they were minted today. How do I tell if they are Proof Coins or not ? Anybody ? Please help.
