Another update on the MS66: Despite checking Variety Plus on the submission form; despite typing the correct variety on the submission form; despite stating that I'd like the coin attributed in the NOTES section on the attribution form; despite calling to personally explain what needed to happen... NGC just posted that they'd shipped the MS66 back to me AS IS. The coin sat at NCS for a month before they decided they either couldn't or didn't need to do anything to it (it only moved through the system after I called) and then, despite being promised that the coin would be graded via Early Bird last week, they failed to even make an attempt to attribute the variety. Someone apparently missed all the "clues" about the variety attribution and just thought it was being evaluated for a possible upgrade to MS67. Yikes, NGC. Yikes. Now they are figuring out if it's already been dropped off at the post office or not, and whether they can pull it back in to, you know, do what the invoice said to do - three times. EDIT: four times, if you also count the pricing section at the bottom of the invoice. This little kitty cat is not a happy little kitty cat.
Congratulations on the find!!...and condolences on NGCs failures. Consider it the universe's payback for a great find and have faith NGC will work it out.
If this was for my collection I would say, how quick could you make right on your wrong. If it was for profit, I would be asking for next day mail, on this one. Sorry, for the troubles.
I think I'm fairly confident that eventually NGC will get it right. I am also cumulatively frustrated that situations like this happen over and over...I pay a company money that was not easy to come by (because my family didn't start out with it) and I end up doing more work than they do to get the job done correctly. And...I'm not going down Rant Boulevard, because seriously, the potholes are terrible and no one ever looks happy to see me there. So, it will get fixed when it gets fixed. I will be courteous and professional to other human beings. And I will ask for some free grading vouchers. And I will eventually get my Precious back.
Did you request the NCS doctors examine it? I didn't know they just did that whenever they felt like it.
I did request that NCS take a look at it to determine if it needed conservation. So it sat there for a month until I called to ask for a status. I have an update: Apparently the coin is in its way back to me in a new MS 66 slab, but with the old cert number and the correct variety attribution. Took two calls and an email to get that taken care of. Now, that's not the end of the story. It's never that easy... After speaking with NGC, and being told that it had definitely gotten the variety attributed because the package had been located and opened "two or three times" - what do you think I did? I checked the very verification page. What did I see? No images. What that tells me is that yes, indeed, they did forget to do the variety attribution and were going to ship it back to me as I sent it to them, but once I called them they opened it back up and "fixed" it that day. And because they didn't take images of it, that tells me that the coin didn't go through the normal process it should have gone through. So now I have a valuable coin that has no images on the cert verification page, and I will need to image the coin and have them use my images for their cert verification page (or be forced to explain all this to a prospective and skeptical buyer.) Once it gets here (because why trust that the issue is fixed until it arrives), I will be preparing a strongly worded request for some free submissions based on having to basically do their jobs for them and still being charged for the privilege.
Once you have the coin back (correctly), send the NGC CEO a postcard with the URL to this thread, and, ask him if this is the way he wants his company to be remembered.
Both company's get out of the ordinary submissions messed up. I have had my last 3 to PCGS just like this where they though it was less then I wanted and basically just sent my coins back without adding Variety's. Good Luck with them as it''s still a very nice find. Just going to take a bit loner to get it done.
